Requirement Overview
As a foundational document for the Digital Nomad Visa (DNV) application, you must provide a valid passport. This serves as your primary identification and proof of your non-EU/EEA status.
Legal Context
This requirement is governed by the Ley 28/2022 (the Startup Law), managed by the Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores. It ensures that foreign remote workers can legally enter and reside in Spain while working for non-Spanish companies.
Documents to Satisfy the Requirement
- Complete Copy: A full photocopy of all pages of your valid passport (including blank pages and those with previous visas/stamps).
- Validity: The passport must be current. It is recommended to have at least one year of validity remaining at the time of application.
- NIE/TIE Correlation: This passport will be linked to your NIE (Foreigner Identification Number) and eventually your TIE (Residence Card), as handled by the Policía Nacional.
Apostille and Translation
- Apostille: Passports do not require an apostille as they are international identification documents.
- Translation: Typically, the passport data page does not require a sworn translation if it is in English or Spanish, but check specific consulate requirements as they can vary.
Common Pitfalls
- Expired Validity: Applying with a passport near its expiration date can lead to a shorter visa duration.
- Missing Pages: Submitting only the ID page. You must provide a copy of the entire booklet to prove your entry/exit history.
- Non-EU Status: Ensure you are using a non-EU/EEA passport; EU citizens do not apply for the DNV and follow different registration procedures.
