Requirement Overview
As part of the general application documents for the Digital Nomad Visa (DNV), freelancers must demonstrate they possess sufficient financial resources to reside in Spain. According to the Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores, this requirement ensures that remote workers can support themselves without becoming a burden on the state.
Minimum Income Threshold
Under the Ley 28/2022 (Startup Law), the minimum monthly income requirement is set at approximately 200% of the Salario Mínimo Interprofesional (SMI).
Required Evidence
Freelancers must provide documentation showing a professional relationship with non-Spanish clients for at least the last 3 months. To satisfy the financial requirement, you should submit:
- Service Contracts: Showing the duration and compensation agreed upon with clients.
- Invoices: Historical proof of billing for the past 3 months.
- Bank Statements: Showing the regular deposit of funds corresponding to your income.
- Freelancer Profile: Proof of a university degree or at least 3 years of professional experience in your field.
Translation and Legalization
Documents issued outside of Spain must generally be translated into Spanish by a sworn translator. Public documents (like official certifications) typically require an Apostille or legalization to be valid for Spanish authorities.
Common Pitfalls
- Insufficient Income: Ensure your net income stays strictly above the 200% SMI threshold. Calculations often disregard months with lower-than-average billing.
- Spanish Clients: Revenue must primarily come from non-Spanish sources. Income from Spanish companies is restricted for this visa type.
- Incomplete History: Failing to prove the minimum 3-month prior relationship with clients can lead to rejection.
