- NIE (Número de Identidad de Extranjero): While not a proof of nationality itself, it is the mandatory identification number for legal/economic activity in Spain.
Translation and Legalization
- Apostille: Generally not required for the identification page of the passport itself, as it is an internationally recognized travel document.
- Translation: Passports usually contain English or Spanish labels (multilingual). If the passport is only in a non-Latin script, a sworn translation may be requested.

- Dual Nationality: If an applicant holds both a non-EU and an EU passport (e.g., USA and Italy), they must apply as an EU citizen under the general registration scheme, not the DNV.
