A standard passport-sized photograph (3.5 x 4.5 cm) is a mandatory requirement for the Digital Nomad Visa under Law 14/2013. It must be a recent, high-resolution color photo taken against a plain white background. The applicant should face the camera directly with a neutral expression, mouth closed, and eyes clearly visible. Headgear is only permitted for religious reasons, provided it does not obscure the oval of the face.
Since this is an original physical or digital image of the applicant, it does not require an apostille or a sworn translation. The photo is usually taken at professional photo studios or specialized booths. Its validity is generally limited to six months to ensure it reflects the applicant's current appearance.
Common mistakes include using old photos from previous passports, low image quality (pixelation), or shadows on the face or background. Another frequent error is wearing glasses with tinted lenses or thick frames that cover the eyes. If applying within Spain (UGE-CE), the photo is primarily needed for the TIE (Residency Card) appointment after approval. Ensure the forehead and ears are visible if possible, as per ICAO standards commonly accepted by Spanish authorities.
