The employer's authorization letter is a cornerstone of the Digital Nomad Visa application under Law 14/2013. This document must be issued by the company on official letterhead, signed by a legal representative, and ideally stamped. It serves two purposes: confirming a professional relationship of at least three months and granting explicit permission to work remotely from Spain.
The letter must detail the applicant's seniority, specific job functions, and the salary amount. Most importantly, it must state that the company allows the employee to perform their tasks from abroad. For contractors (autónomos), the letter should reflect the terms of the service agreement.
Apostille & Translation: If the company is located outside Spain, the letter does not typically require an apostille (as it is a private document), but it must be accompanied by a sworn translation (Traductor Jurado) into Spanish.
Validity: The document should be issued within 90 days of the application.
Common Errors: Failing to explicitly mention 'Spain' as the remote work location, missing the signature of a verified representative, or providing a generic job description that doesn't match the required professional profile. Note: If you register for Social Security (Alta en RETA) in Spain, you may access the public health system (SNS), making private insurance optional in certain scenarios.
